In St. Petersburg hosted the event “EMC: Saint-Petersburg”, dedicated research company in our country. Vyacheslav Nesterov, General Director of EMC development Center in St. Petersburg, has focused in his speech on two topics: the place of the Centre in the company’s structure and areas of work.
EMC revenue which in 2014 amounted to $24.4 billion (+5% compared to last year), on average, spends annually on R&D about $4 billion, of which $2 billion is for local innovation, and $2 billion on buying companies. Also g-n Nesterov reminded that EMC was founded in 1979, and in 2001 began working in Russia. As for the centers EMC, the first one appeared in India and the second in China (the country currently has three). The third was founded in St. Petersburg in 2007. Currently in North Palmyra on EMC employs about 300 people, including 250 software engineers. There are CENTERS in Israel, Ireland, Egypt and the USA. Two years ago there was a center EMC in SKOLKOVO.
Center EMC in St. Petersburg specializes in software development. In particular, the company has accumulated considerable experience in the field of cloud technologies and cloud instrumentation resources, efficient data storage and information management. The centre has considerable expertise in the area of workflow (especially in part automated data input from paper), and has the mainframe expertise, valuable and rare. In General, the center EMC in St. Petersburg already have applied for 71 patents, and received, because of the slowness of the procedure, while only 16.
Also, as noted by Vyacheslav Nesterov, the center conducts projects with universities and is an active member of the Russian venture ecosystem (for example, he works with business incubators and provides expert support). Among the areas of innovative activity — carrying out joint projects with research groups and Russian companies, among which, for example, RZD.
The main directions of work of the centre include the development of EMC products and technologies — in particular, work is underway on some elements of EMC Viper and EMC VMax. In addition, the center promotes the development of EMC business in Russia and CIS — conducted meetings with customers, being technological discussions, and carried out joint projects, often involving the creation of prototypes.
Kamil Isaev, Vice-President of EMC and General Director of the Moscow center of research and development EMC’s cloud and Big Data, spoke about the works carried at EMC R&D Skolkovo. The focus of this research structures: medicine of the future. Mr. Isaev noted that usually EMC is perceived as a provider of IT infrastructure, especially storage, and announced that the center EMC in SKOLKOVO, to some extent, to test hypotheses about how EMC can become a vertically integrated company.
Kamil Isaev has underlined that the medicine of the future based on big data, describing the characteristics of the structure of each individual, in particular its genetic structures. EMC is making practical steps for the accumulation and exchange of not only genetic, and phenotypic data.
In General, projects of exchange of genetic and phenotypic data suggest the development of a standard API. A desire to share the data is not enough: you need to create software interfaces. In the future a division of EMC in SKOLKOVO plans to complete the project in an Israeli hospital Sheba, where for the last 15 years has accumulated a lot of phenotypic data: this medical facility uses electronic medical records and a half decades.
Mr. Isaev noted that currently EMC represents Russia in the Alliance the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health. In General, this structure includes 326 members from 32 countries.
In his speech Evgeny Abramovich crook, Vice-rector for scientific and innovative activity of Saint-Petersburg state University of aerospace instrumentation, noted that EMC’s perfectly built system of financing University community — including scholarships for freshmen and support for student projects.
